New and extended Assignments

It’s been a busy couple of months at Interregna, including several new assignments.

The first is a major international group with interests in engineering and financial services. Our involvement was to install an interim Operations Director for their engineering subsidiary supporting the North Sea oil sector. During a 3-week review period, our candidate reported back to the board what they had suspected: that operational inefficiencies and factory floor morale were affecting profitability. He drew up a list of specific issues and recommended solutions, and has been re-commissioned to be the interim Managing Director for the next 3 to 6 months until a new permanent MD is recruited. The client is looking forward to a rapid resolution of its operational deficiencies and a brighter, profitable outcome.

We have also been involved in placing an interim into the unique environment of one of the UK’s largest trade organisations, with over 400 employees. The client’s activities include policymaking, lobbying on behalf of its members at the highest levels and influencing press and public opinion. It also has a vibrant commercial arm, selling services to its members.

Our candidate was brought in after the departure of a key member of staff to bring a major IT development project back on track. Our candidate remains the central point of contact on the project, with responsibility for hardware and software deployment, assessment of vulnerabilities and accountability to management and ultimately the member base. He will also be responsible for ensuring that the new systems generate revenue.

In selecting the appropriate shortlist, Interregna found candidates to match a lengthy set of requirements, including project management, IT skills, an in-depth knowledge of the sector and above all a natural cultural fit. Our candidate underwent an assessment period during which realistic goals for the project were established, and he has now been installed as project manager for the next six months.

Regular readers of this newsletter will also know that Interregna has particular skills in HR, and we are currently involved in one of the biggest redundancy programmes in the UK. The client has 50 sites across the UK, and is doing its best to find work for staff in other divisions and to provide appropriate consultation at all levels. This exacting exercise demonstrates best-practice in troubled times. Despite long hours and plenty of travelling, our interims (and the rest of the HR team involved) are discharging their duties impeccably- the assignment has recently been extended to ensure that eventual redundancies are kept to a minimum.
